Frequently Asked Questions

Can my child attend multiple camps at Darlington in one summer?
Absolutely, as long as space is available and they are not at the same time.

Where does camp registration occur?
Registration for every camp will be held at the Huffman Memorial Athletic Center. The parking lot for this facility is located on Darlington Drive.

Where do campers eat and sleep?
Campers live in Darlington’s six student houses, used by resident students during the academic year. These houses are fully air-conditioned with all the modern amenities of a 21st-century home. At Darlington Summer Camps, you won’t have to worry about mosquitoes and summer heat keeping you awake at night. Campers will sleep 2-4 per room. When it comes to camp, sleep is as important as eating and having fun. The better you sleep, the healthier you are, and the harder you can play the next day.

We understand the importance of good nutrition and a well-balanced diet. Campers will eat three nutritious meals per day (breakfast, lunch and dinner) in Darlington School’s Dodd Dining Room.

How are the boys and girls placed in the houses, and how many campers share one room?
Girls and boys are separated by floor or house in the dormitories. All boundaries are controlled by key card access, so boys and girls are unable to get onto floors or into dorms where they are not assigned. Two, three, or four campers of similar age are assigned a room, which is furnished with single beds or bunk beds, chests of drawers, and storage closets. Staff will reside with the campers in the houses and are available at all times.

What are the camps' policies on parents entering dorms and dorm rooms during check-in/out?
Although each camp differs slightly on this point, Darlington School welcomes parents in lounges and patio areas on arrival or departure days, but encourages restraint in entering dorm rooms, bathrooms, or other private spaces. Remember, you are a "stranger" to all other campers, and we want to make sure that everyone feels safe and comfortable on the Darlington campus.

What should I do if I have questions regarding camp policies?
Please defer to the camp staff and camp rules. You are the parent, but the camp staff is in charge while your child is on campus. Of course, we welcome and encourage parents to watch and share in the camp experience. If something is bothering you, please be sure to speak to the staff or summer programs director privately as to not undermine the staff in front of the campers.

Is there a laundry service at Darlington Summer Programs?
Due to the short duration of most of our camps (three to five days), laundry service is not provided.

What if my child takes medication?
You should consult directly with the camp director of your particular camp to make arrangements as needed.

Will I be able to communicate with my child during camp? Can I send care packages?
Please see the individual camp policies regarding communication with your child. Due to the differences in schedules and activities for each camp, camps will have different free time and opportunities set aside for campers to use phones and other technology.

What health services are available?
Floyd Medical Center and Redmond Regional Medical Center are located in Rome, only a short distance from the campus. Due to the nature of our residential community during the school year, Darlington has a close working relationship with the medical community in Rome.

Can my child request his/her bunkmate for the session?
Individual room assignments are handled by each camp with the overall goal of utilizing our dorm space in the most efficient manner possible. This will limit some of the flexibility each camp will have in accommodating individual rooming requests.

Do we need to send bed sheets and/or other items with our child that the camp does not provide?
Yes, all campers should their own bed linens for a single bed, a pillow, towel(s) (some camps will utilize our pool so having a bath towel and a pool towel might be beneficial), and any other toiletry needs.
